Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) Portion of cleaner that evaporates and pollutes indoor air, contributing to "sick building syndrome". The U.S. EPA and State of California have legislation in place to limit and gradually reduce these airborne compounds. California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the U.S. EPA National Volatile Organic Compounds Emission Standards for Consumer Products.

Combined ingredient based testing OECD 301 D Ready Biodegradability. ECOgent Glass & Surface Cleaner is 100% Biodegradable in 5 days. ECOgent Concentrate Cleaner degrades 58% in 5 days, 83% in 15 days, and 100% in 28 days. The current standard for considering a product degradable is if it degrades 60% in 28 days.

ECOgent concentrate degrades under anaerobic conditions. Greater than 60% in 56 days is considered acceptable by ASTM standard test method for determining the Anaerobic Biodegradation of Organic Chemicals, Test Method 1196-92. A high biodegradation provides good evidence that test substance will biodegrade in private septic systems, waste treatment plant, anaerobic digesters and in many natural anaerobic environments such as river and lake sediment.

Aquatic Toxicity OECD 202 PI Ceriodaphnia dubia Acute Static 48 hrs. (Water Flea) LC 50 greater than 100 mg/litre, LC 0 100 mg/litre No Observed Effect Concentration is greater than 100 mg/litre. 100 mg/litre highest concentration tested as per OECD 202 PI.

DERMAL L.D. 50 is the standard evaluation of dermal toxicity of chemical substances. Substances with Dermal LD 50 of greater than 2000 mg/kg are considered non-toxic.

ORAL L.D. 50 is the standard evaluation of oral toxicity of chemical substances. Oral LD 50 stands for lethal dose where 50% of test animals die. Most environmental choice programs prefer products with Oral LD 50 of greater than 5000 mg/kg.
,000 children in the U.S. per year are poisoned by household disinfectants, mostly kitchen and bathroom cleaners.

NOTE: To see how our results exceed current environmental standards, please view the report by Greenseal, Inc. Standards comparisons begin in section 3.8 on page 3-38 (62nd page of the file).
